The Silence of Thelonious Monk
It is as easy to understand late jazz musician Thelonious Monk by listening to his pauses as it is by listening to his piano. This piece’s focus is on that grey area, on the silence that describes Monk as well as his records can.
Throughout the book, all uses of blankness, abbreviation and disjointedness are intended to reinforce the concepts that reflect Monk’s musical mind: spasmodic and spliced, yet detailed and graceful.
